~Limited edition, no. 688 of 1000, with original etching by Niroot Puttapipat, signed and numbered by the artist. Introduction by Michael Morpurgo. Hand-bound in vellum blocked in 22-carat gold, with vellum tips. Havana paper to boards, pictorial front board foil-blocked in silver, gold, bronze and black. Book spine and solander box label hand-lettered by Stephen Raw. Set in Founders Caslon types at The Folio Society and printed on Cordier Wove paper by Martins the Printers, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland. Etching hand-printed by Bacon & Bacon, Allendale, on Zerkall natural white mould-made, cotton content paper, with limitation page frame blocked in black and gilt. In original brown-bronze cloth-bound solander box. Very faint tiny area of pale markings to top corner of solander box, otherwise in fine condition. Book pristine, mint condition. With 4pp. loose leaflet printed in grey, brown, and black on mould-made paper: ‘What the Just So Animals Say About Our Book’, with illustrations (reproduced from vol. tailpiece vignettes) and endorsements or otherwise from the Just So animals (‘What infinite-resource-and-sagacity, to create such a marvellous book!’ from The Whale; ‘I do not provide endorsements for any books, however fine’ from The Cat Who Walks by Himself’). With pencil annot to leaflet noting date of order and delivery. 14 tipped-in colour illustrations, numerous borders and tailpiece vignettes, and pictorial endpapers, all by the Thai-born, London-based illustrator N. Puttapipat, who has worked extensively for the Folio Society. Puttapipat’s works, strongly influenced by ‘Golden Age’ illustrators, Chinese painting, Japanese prints, and Persian miniatures, have been exhibited in the British Library. ~Robust packaging.
