Thomas Tanner (1674-1735), bishop of St Asaph and antiquary; his Notitia monastica, intended as an updating of Dugdale’s 1655-73 Monasticon Anglicanum, was first published in 1695. A revised version, begun by Tanner and completed by his brother, was published in 1744; this edition was then further revised and enlarged by James Nasmith for the present 1787 edn. Nasmith (bap. 1740, d. 1808) was himself a respected clergyman-antiquary; his revised edition of Notitia monastica was among his principal works. Scarce; many copies of the 1787 edition were lost in a fire in 1808. ~Robust packaging. All UK orders with tracking, overseas orders on request. Used books are exempt from USA tariffs.
