Spine mildly sunned. Gilt decor to board edges and turn-ins. All edges gilt. 13.3 x 18.3cm. Hinges sound. Title page printed in red & black. Typographic ornaments forming frame to title page and head- and tail-pieces throughout. Limited edition of 510 copies, of which this is no. 277. Printed on handmade paper, with the Shakespeare Head watermark of Shakespeare’s crest. The Shakespeare Head Press was established in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1904 by Elizabethan scholar Arthur Henry Bullen (1857-1920). The original aim was to produce the first edition of Shakespeare’s works printed in Stratford-upon-Avon; Bullen’s ten volume Shakespeare was completed by 1907. Bullen modelled his press after the Kelmscott Press, and indeed reused some of Morris’ equipment, including one of his hand-presses. Attractive binding, reframing seventeenth-century motifs in restrained arts and crafts style. Scarce. Robust packaging. Tracking can be added to overseas orders on request. Used books are exempt from USA tariffs.
