Each volume has the armorial bookplate of Sutton Sharpe(1798-1843), a Lincoln’s Inn QC who was friends with both Stendhal and Prosper Merimee, and the smaller bookplate of his younger brother, Daniel Sharpe (1806-1856), who was elected President of the London Geological Society in 1856.
